Lwin Myint, former leader of the 'People's Defence Force' party, was arrested in 1990 for his involvement in the 1988 uprising. He was sentenced to 20 years n prison, commuted to 10 years under amnesty. He was jailed for 8 years in Insein and Thayet prisons. He fled Burma and currently lives in Umpiem Mai refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.<br />
Ba Myo Thein, brother of Lwin Myint, was arrested in 1991 for alleged links with the Communist Party of Burma and sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison. His sentence was extended whilst in prison when he was accused of drawing illustrations in a magazine attempting to report on human rights violations in Insein prison. He was released from Thayet prison in September 2009.
