U Win Myint, a former student leader, was first arrested in 1974 for his involvement in the student lead U Thant uprising and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. In 1996 he was arrested again for a statement being issued demanding dialogue between the opposition and the military regime. He was sentenced to 13 years and spent 9 years in prison before being released in 2005. He fled Burma and is now a refugee in Umpiem Mai camp on the Thai-Burma border.<br />
Soe Myint, a student and member of the DPNS, was arrested in June 2005 and sentenced to 22 years in prison. He is currently detained in Tharawaddy prison.
