Nyein Chan, former political prisoner from Burma
Nyein Chan, a former student activist and member of the NLD, was arrested in 1998 for distributing pamphlets calling for support for the convening of parliament. He was sentenced to 14 years and spent 4 years in Myeik prison. He fled Burma and currently lives in Nupo refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.
Aung Than, a student and member of the NLD, was arrested near the Thai-Burma border in March 2006 and charged with associating with outlawed organisations and illegally crossing a border. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison but was released in an amnesty in May 2011.
