Daw Than Kywe, a former member of the NLD, was arrested in 1991 and charged with distributing a videotape made by the opposition political organisations in Manerplaw on the Thai-Burma border. She was sentenced to 5 years in prison and was released in 1996. She fled Burma and resettled to USA.
Aye Aung, one of the leaders of student demonstrations in 1998, was arrested soon after whilst in hiding in Rangoon. He was sentenced to 59 years and is currently in Kale prison.
