Zayar Thaw, hip-hop musician and founding member of outlawed student organisation Generation Wave, was arrested with 5 colleagues in March 2008 and charged with forming an illegal organisation and possession of foreign currency. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison later reduced to 4 years. He was released in May 2011 and now works closely with the NLD as a personal bodyguard for Aung San Suu Kyi.
Aung Zay Phyo, fellow member of Generation Wave who was arrested with Zayar Thaw in March 2008 was also charged with forming an illegal organisation. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison and in October 2011 he was released under the general amnesty.
