Aung Moe, a former student activist was arrested along with 6 colleagues in 1998 for leading student protests demanding the convening of the elected civilian government. He was sentenced to 7 years and spent more than six in Bago prison. He fled Burma and now lives in Umpiem Mai refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.
Myat Thu, a student activist, was arrested in arrested in June 2008 and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for assisting victims of Cyclone Nargis. He was released from prison in May 2011.
