Aung Din, former student leader during the 1988 uprising and close friend of Min Ko Naing, served as vice-chairperson of the ABFSU. He was arrested in 1989 and sentenced to 4 years with hard labour for his role in leading the protests. He left Burma in 1995 and resettled to USA where he is now Executive Director of the US Campaign for Burma
Sithu Aung, a member of outlawed student organisation Generation Wave, was jailed for 6 years in 2009 for association with organisations on the Thai-Burma border. He is currently detained in Prome prison
