U Tin Tun Aung, former journalist and editor of 'The New Light of Burma' was elected a member of Parliament in the 1990 General Election, but the military regime refused to recognize the results. In September 1998 along with other MPs and members of the NLD he was arrested when the 'Committee Representing People's Parliament' was formed and was sent to Ye Mon Detention Centre where he was detained for 3 years. He has now joined the monkhood and lives in the USA.
Pyae Phyo Aung, a journalist, was arrested in January 2011 and is serving a 4 year sentence in Prome prison.
