Dr Min Nyo, former Rangoon University student, was arrested in 1978 and accused of being a Communist. He was jailed for 2 years in Mandalay and Insein prison before fleeing Burma in 1981 and re-settling in Japan. After the 1988 uprisings in Burma he formed the Burma Association Japan and now works for the National Council of the Union of Burma and the Federal Trades Union of Burma as representative in Japan.
Myo Aung Thant was arrested in 1997 and charged with high treason and sentenced to 20 years in prison for his trade union activity and for maintaining contacts with the FTUB. His wife was arrested as the same time and sentenced to 10 years as an accomplice to her husband. He was released from Myitkyina prison in October 2011 under th egeneral amnesty.
