Win Hlaing, a former member of the NLD, was arrested in 1999 due to his political activities for the NLD. He was sentenced to 12 years and spent six years in prison until his release in 2005. He fled Burma and is currently living in Nupo refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.
Than Zaw, a youth member of the NLD, was arrested in July 1989 and falsely accused of a bombing incident in Rangoon. Along with his colleagues Nyi Nyi Oo and Moe Kyaw Thu, he was charged with high treason and sentenced to life imprisonment. In October 2011 he was eventually released under the general amnesty.
