Nyi Nyi Htwe was first arrested in 1990 for his role in leading protests during the mass uprising of 1988. He was released in 1993 but was arrested once again during the student demonstrations in 1996. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison and was released in 2002. He continues to work in Burma's pro-democracy movement in Rangoon.
U Thone was arrested in 1988 during the mass democracy uprising. He was sentenced to 48 years in prison. He is still detained in Myingyan.
