Cho Mar Htwe, former member of the NLD, was arrested in September 1998 for distributing a letter demanding the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners. She was sentenced to 14 years in prison and spent 11 years in Insein and Moulmein prison before her release in September 2009. She fled Burma and now lives in exile on the Thai-Burma border.
Chit Min Lay, a student leader and member of the ABFSU, was arrested in 1998 for his role leading the student movement that demanded the elected civilian government take power. He was sentenced to 31 years in prison and is currently detained in Moulmein prison.
