Dr Win Maung, a former member of the NLD was arrested in 1991 for attending to wounded students from the ABSDF and was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He spent nearly 5 years in Myitkyina and Mandalay prisons before being released in 1995. He was forced to flee Burma and in 2005 was re-settled to Norway.
Bauk Naw, an NLD leader from Kachin State was charged with contacting organisations in exile and was sentenced to 9 years in prison. He is still jailed in Myitkyina prison.
