Kyaw Kyaw, a former army colonel and political activist, was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to 7 years in prison for chaining himself to a lamp-post in Rangoon in a solo protest against the military regime. He was jailed for 7 years in Insein prison. He fled Burma and now lives in exile on the Thai-Burma border.
Thet Nwe was arrested in 1997 for his involvement in the student protests and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is still detained in Insein prison.
