Moe Maung Maung, a former Rangoon university student was arrested 3 times during the 1988 mass uprisings. But he was finally jailed in 1995 for his role in a leading student demonstration at the funeral of former prime minister U Thant. He was jailed for 6 years in Insein and Taungoo prisons. In 2002 he fled Burma with his young family and in 2005 was re-settled to Norway.
Min Zeya, a leading member and founder of the 88 Generation Students was first jailed for 6 years in 1989 for leading an underground student network. In 2007 he was arrested for his role in leading peaceful protests and sentenced to 65 years in prison. He is currently detained in Lashio prison.
