U Nine Nine, an elected member of parliament for the NLD in the 1990 general election was first arrested in 1990 and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Released from Thayet prison in 1999 he returned to his role in the NLD but was arrested again in September 2000 for an NLD statement regarding the regime preventing Aung San Suu Kyi from travelling in Dala. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison and was finally released in September 2009. He continues to work for the NLD in Rangoon as an Central Executive Committee member.
U Aung Thein, a member of the NLD Central Committee was arrested in March 2006 and charged with possession of a satellite phone and contacting exiled NLD leaders outside of the country. He was sentenced to 20 years and is currently detained in Insein prison.
