Tint Lwin, a former student activist, was arrested in 1990 and sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the 1988 mass uprising. He was jailed for 8 years in Insein and Thayet prisons. He fled Burma after being detained and questioned by military intelligence during the Saffron Revolution. He fled Burma and is now a refugee in Umpiem Mai camp on the Thai-Burma border.
U Nandika, a Buddhist monk, was arrested in September 2008 for his involvement in providing aid to victims of cyclone Nargis.
