Toe Toe Tun was arrested in 1990 for her role in the student lead mass uprising of 1988 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She spent 9 years in Insein prison. After her release she was forced to flee the country and has now resettled in the UK.
Zaya, a friend of Toe Toe Tun, former joint secretary of the DPNS and member of the 88 Generation Students, was first arrested in 1991 during the 10D student movement celebrating Aung San Suu Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize award. He was jailed for 15 years. In August 2007 he was arrested again for his role in leading peaceful protests and is currently serving a 65 years sentence in Tavoy prison.
