Kyi Phyu, a member of the NLD, was arrested in August 2007 during a peaceful procession of NLD members and supporters protesting against the regime. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He was released from Pakokku prison under an amnesty in May 2011. He continues to work in Burma's democracy movement in Rangoon.
Kyaw Kyaw, a junior lawyer and labour activist was arrested in May 2007 when attending a public lecture on workers rights held at the American Centre in Rangoon. He was charged with discrediting the government, violating immigration laws and engaging with unlawful organisations. He was sentenced to 20 years and is currently detained in Kale prison.
