Kyaw San, founder member of the Tri Color student group that provided security to Aung San Suu Kyi, was detained and tortured numerous times from 1988 onwards due to his political activities. In 2007 during the Saffron Revolution he was charged with organizing protests and was sentenced to 2 years. He was released from Mong Hsat prison in May 2011 and has returned to his role as personal security for Aung San Suu Kyi.
Sandar Min, a member of the '88 Generation Students' and founding member of the 'Tri Colour' Students Group was involved in the 1988 mass uprisings and was first arrested and imprisoned in 1989. She was detained again in August 2007 for her role in peaceful protests in Rangoon against the hike in fuel prices and was sentenced to 65 years in prison. She is currently detained in Myaungmya prison.
