U Ukkamsa, was arrested in 1992 for participation in the religious movement when monks refused to accept alms from members of the military regime. He was charged with insulting religion and sentenced to 3 years in prison. He fled Burma and is now a refugee in Umpiem Mai camp on the Thai-Burma border.
U Nanda Thari, a Buddhist monk, was arrested in September 2007 for his participation in the Saffron Revolution protests. He is serving a 4 year sentence in Shwebo prison.
