Aung Thein, prominent lawyer and member of the NLD, was arrested in November 2007 when defending democracy activists under trial for alleged involvement leading protests in the Saffron Revolution. He was charged with contempt of court and jailed for 4 months. Over the years he has represented hundreds of democracy activists, members of the NLD and Aung San Suu Kyi and he continues to do so despite constant threats from the military regime.
Kyaw Kyaw, a junior lawyer and labour activist was arrested in May 2007 when attending a public lecture on workers rights held at the American Centre in Rangoon. He was charged with discrediting the government, violating immigration laws and engaging with unlawful organisations. He was sentenced to 20 years and is currently detained in Kale prison.
