Thet Oo, former central committee member of the Tri-Color student group who provided security for Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested in July 1993 due to his political activities. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Whilst incarcerated he was badly tortured and lost hearing in his left ear. Released in 2005 he joined the 88 Generation Students but was forced to flee Burma in 2007 and now works for the AAPP on the Thai-Burma border.
U Ohn Than, veteran solo protester against the military regime, was first arrested in 1988 and spent 7 years in prison for leading protests during the 1988 uprising. He was jailed again in 1996 for distributing a pamphlet "A Call for the Fight for Burma's Human Rights" and again spent 7 years in jail. In August 2007 he staged a solo protest outside the American embassy in August 2007 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is currently detained in Putao prison.
