Kyaw Han, a former member of the Arakan Independence Organisation, was arrested in 1989 for his role in peaceful protests during the 1988 uprising. He was arrested in August 1989 and was sentenced to 2 years in prison. He is currently living in Nupo refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.
Min Aung, leading member of the Human Rights Defenders & Promoters Network (HRDP) and member of the NLD, was arrested in October 2007 for his involvement in the Saffron Revolution protests and was sentenced to 17 years. He was released from Kale prison under amnesty in October 2011.
