U Aubar, a Buddhist monk and political activist, was arrested in 1989 for his involvement in the mass democracy uprising. He spent 3 years in Insein prison. He fled Burma and is currently living in Nupo refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country..U Sanda Thiri, a monk, was first arrested in January 1998 along with 5 student activists and was accused of possession of explosives and association with the ABSDF. He was sentenced to death, later commuted to 14 years. He was arrested again in 2007 for the leading role he played in organising the Saffron Revolution and was sentenced to 11 years. He is currently detained in Sittwe prison.
