Kyaw Zaw, a former member of the ABFSU, was first arrested in 1991 for his involvement in protests during the 1988 uprising. In 1998 he was arrested again for his involvement in student protests, this time being sentenced to 14 years. In total he was jailed for more than 10 years for his political activities. He currently lives in Nupo refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border where he is awaiting resettlement to a third country.
De Nyein Lin, a student activist, was instrumental in re-forming the ABFSU during the Saffron Revolution in 2007 and also played a leading role in protests alongside the 88 Generation Students. He was forced into hiding as the military cracked down but was eventually arrested in October 2007. He is currently detained in Hkamti prison where he is serving a 15 year sentence.
