Thet Oo, a former bodyguard to Aung San Suu Kyi, was arrested in 1993 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. During his interrogation he was so badly beaten around the head that he lost his hearing in his left ear. He spent more than 12 years in prison and upon his release became a member of the 88 Generation Students. He was forced to flee Burma and now lives in exile in Thailand where he continues his work in the struggle for democracy in Burma with his fellow former political prisoners at the 'Assistance Association for Political Prisoners' in Mae Sot
